Products Supported: 1. Novell NetWare 3.12 and IntranetWare. 2. FirePort 20, FirePort 40, and FirePort 40 Dual. --------------------------------------------------------------------- B. NetWare 3.12 Installation Notes Please note that the FirePort 40 Dual will be recognized as two instances of a Symbios 53c875 based card. You may use the Symbios drivers (two instances) or follow the directions below to install (two instances) of the fireport.ham driver. The FirePort 20 and 40 WILL NOT be recognized by the Symbios driver. You must follow the directions below to install the fireport.ham driver. Installing the FirePort ham driver and NetWare 3.12. The Diamond supplied driver is an NWPA (HAM) driver. Novell supports use of HAM drivers on NetWare 3.12, but you must install various Novell patches. For your convenience, we have included these files on the FirePort NetWare Installation Diskette. These were the latest versions on Novell's web site at the time of release. You may wish to check with Novell for the latest patches and installation instructions. General instructions for installing NetWare 3.12 with FirePort. (This assumes you have a fresh system and that you will be installing from a CDROM drive attached to the FirePort. Note that Diamond's DOS ASPI is NOT supported under DrDos.) 1. Install DOS 1.1 Physically install your FirePort and connect the hard drive and CDROM drive. (Please review the FirePort Installation Guide for instructions.) 1.2 Boot DOS from drive A: 1.3 Use fdisk to create a small FAT partition for boot purposes. 20 Mbytes is sufficient. 1.4 Run "format /s" to install DOS on the partition. 1.5 Boot DOS from the newly installed drive c: 1.6 Install the DOS ASPI and DOS CDROM driver. This can be done by running the ASPI install program "\dos\install.exe" found on the FirePort Driver Installation Diskette. You will need to install the CDROM driver, either via the Express Setup option or by explicitly selecting it under the Selectable menu option. 1.7 Reboot the machine to load the CDROM driver. 2. Install NetWare 3.12 The following assumes you have copied the contents of the FirePort NetWare Installation Diskette to c:\fireport. (You may substitute the directory of your choice.) i.e. "xcopy a:\*.* c:\fireport /s". 2.1 From the CDROM, run Novell's Install utility. This will copy files to your drive c: and load server.exe. (Please review your Novell documentation for instructions.) 2.2 Once you have reached the NetWare prompt... 2.3 "load c:\fireport\native\start\npapatch" 2.4 "load c:\fireport\nwpaload" 2.5 "load c:\fireport\fireport" 2.6 "load c:\fireport\scsihd" 2.7 "load install" - Create NetWare Partition - Create SYS volume - Mount SYS - Copy system and public files - Create startup.ncf and edit/add the following lines - "load c:\fireport\native\start\npapatch" - "load c:\fireport\nwpaload" - "load c:\fireport\fireport" - "load c:\fireport\scsihd" - You may wish to add "slot=xxx" to the FirePort load line. - Create and save autoexec.ncf 2.8 "load c:\fireport\patch312" and follow the instructions. 2.9 Down the server and reboot. --------------------------------------------------------------------- C. NetWare 3.12 and SBACKUP Sbackup will function with tape devices attached to SCSI cards supported via a HAM driver, but you must load various patches from Novell. You should add/update the following files on your system: 1. sys:system\dibi\dibi2$dv.dat 2. sys:system\nwpaload.nlm 3. sys:system\tsa312.nlm 4. sys:system\sbackup.nlm 5. sys:system\scsi2tp.cdm 6. sys:system\mmattrfx.nlm 7. sys:system\dibimm.nlm 8. sys:system\smdr.nlm 9. sys:system\dibidai.nlm To use sbackup with a tape drive attached to FirePort: 1. load scsi2tp.nlm 2. load mmattrfx.nlm 3. load tsa312.nlm 4. load sbackup and select the dibimm driver 5. use sbackup as normal The files listed above have been included on the FirePort NetWare Installation Diskette, but you should check Novell's Web site for any changes or updates. At the time of our release, these files were found in the following Novell patch files: SBACK6.exe SMSUP6.exe NWPA_312.exe --------------------------------------------------------------------- D. NetWare 3.12 and CDROM support SCSI CDROM devices attached to the FirePort can be used with the HAM driver, but you must upgrade certain Novell files. You should add/update the following files: 1. sys:system\cdrom.nlm 2. sys:system\scsicd.cdm 3. sys:system\nwpaload.nlm To use the CDROM with a CDROM drive attached to FirePort: 1. load after311 2. load scsicd 3. load cdrom 4. cd mount all The files listed above have been included on the FirePort NetWare Installation Diskette, but you should check Novell's Web site for any changes or updates. At the time of our release, these files were found in the following Novell patch files: NWPA_312.exe IWSP3A.exe --------------------------------------------------------------------- E. IntranetWare (4.11) Please follow the Novell instructions. Please note that the FirePort 40 Dual will be recognized as two instances of a Symbios 53c875 based card. The SYM8XXNW.HAM driver will function properly, but you may wish to edit the startup.ncf file and replace the SYM8XXNW.HAM driver with the FIREPORT.HAM driver. The FirePort 20 and 40 WILL NOT be recognized by the Symbios driver. You MUST load the fireport.ham driver to use these cards under 4.11. --------------------------------------------------------------------- F. CDROM.nlm version constraints The version of CDROM.nlm found on some version's of NetWare 3.12 WILL NOT function properly with Diamond's FirePort driver. We have included version 4.11x, dated 5/1/97, of this file on the FirePort NetWare Installation Diskette for your convenience. You will need to copy this new version to your server's system directory in order for the CDROM device to work properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
