Tips and Other Useful Information for Windows NT 4.0 5. Support / Service / Latest Software 1. Release Version ================== Release version 1.02.00 2. Overview =========== This CD-ROM provides a central location for all drivers, applications, and other support files required by the Sonic Impact product. This readme file contains information specific to the installation, configuration, and operation of the Sonic Impact product under Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0. 3. Tips and other useful information for Windows 95/98 ====================================================== 1. Sonic Impact includes both a 2MByte and 4MByte wavetable library. To change the wavetable library, open the Device Manager and select Sound, video and game controllers. Next select the Maestro Wave/WaveTable Synthesis Devices and click on Properties. Select the Audio Settings tab and click on the desired Sound Library. Click OK. You will need to reboot your system before the changes will take affect. 2. Sonic Impact ships with a variety of audio effects capabilities, including chorus, reverb, stereo spatialization, etc. You can control these various effects parameters via the Sonic Impact Audio Works utilities. 3. It is recommended that you have Windows 95/98 installed prior to adding the Sonic Impact hardware and software. If you install or reinstall Windows with the Sonic Impact hardware in your system, please be aware of the following: A) Windows will detect the card and attempt to install the drivers. However it will incorrectly detect the SB compatibility of the Sonic Impact and install the following devices under the "Sound, video and game controllers" section: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro Gameport Joystick MPU-401 Compatible B) Windows will also show the "PCI Multimedia Audio Device" under the "Other devices" section. C) It will be necessary to remove these four devices from the Device Manager, then shutdown and reboot your system. D) When Windows restarts, follow the steps in "Installing the Sonic Impact Drivers" described in the online manual. 4. If, after encountering the situation described in step 3 above, there are two "Gameport Joystick" entries listed in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section, do the following: A) One device should appear normally and the other will have a yellow exclamation symbol. Remove BOTH entries from the device manager. Removing the conflicting device only will not resolve the situation. B) Click the "Refresh" button on the Device Manager. C) Windows should redetect the Gameport and install the appropriate drivers. 5. If you have a Diamond graphics card installed in your system (e.g. Viper V330 or Stealth II G460) and InControl Tools 95 activated for this card, we recommend deactivating it for the installation of the Sonic Impact sound card. Otherwise problems might occur during the Sonic Impact installation. InControl Tools 95 can be deleted with the help of Diamonds' setup program. After the deinstallation please reboot your system before installing Sonic Impact. After successful installation of the sound card InControl Tools 95 can be reinstalled. Known Limitations ----------------- The following are known limitations in this release. 1) The ESS Maestro2 audio/gameport controller used by Sonic Impact is a 3.3 volt component. Some input devices designed for use with 5.0 volt controllers may not function properly. The following input devices are known to have compatibility problems: * Rage3D Digital Joystick from Thrustmaster. * Millennium 3-D Inceptor from Thrustmaster. This is system dependent and may operate correctly on your PC. 2) If you experience occasional popping sounds when playing MIDI content, try turning down or disabling the effects, particularly Chorus and Reverb. 3) During driver installation Windows may display a dialog box stating it has found a newer version of VJoyD.vxd on the system. It is important that you chose to keep the newer file. Otherwise an older version of the driver will be copied to your system and you may experience problems with the gameport. 4. Tips and other useful information for Windows NT 4.0 ======================================================= Known Limitations ---------------- The following are known limitations in this release: 1) The Windows NT support for wavetable synthesis. Currently there is no support for wavetable synthesis under Windows NT. The reason for that is, Windows NT 4.0 doesn't support the DLS (Downloadable sounds) technology or DirectSound 5.0 2) Effects (chorus, reverb, EQ, etc.) are not supported under Windows NT. 5. Support / Service / Latest Software ====================================== The SuperCD contains the most current information about all our support services. To get this information, run the program "START" and select the menu item "Manuals". End of README
