Overview
Intel® iSCSI Remote Boot is designed for the Gigabit family of PCI-Express Server Adapters. Intel
iSCSI Remote Boot provides the capability to boot from a remote iSCSI disk volume located on an iSCSI-based Storage Area Network (SAN). This guide covers hardware and software installation, setup procedures, and troubleshooting tips for installing and booting the system using these adapters.
Installation Overview
For information on System Requirements see System
Requirements.
- Install Intel iSCSI Remote Boot-capable adapters in the system. For a list of supported adapters, see
Supported Adapters.
- Boot via DOS.
- Install the latest Intel iSCSI Remote Boot firmware using iSCSIUtl DOS utility.
Command
"ISCSIUTL -UP -ALL"
programs the firmware on flash ROM of all
iSCSI Remote Boot-capable adapters in the system. See
iSCSI DOS Utility section for details.
- Connect the adapter(s) by cable in the iSCSI initiator system to a network with the
iSCSI target disk.
- If employing Static IP follow the Firmware Setup instructions to configure the Intel
iSCSI Remote Boot firmware to boot from a pre-configured
iSCSI target
disk. If you are using DHCP, go to step 6.
- To setup the initiator system to boot from a remote iSCSI disk using Microsoft* Windows*, follow the steps in
Windows Setup.
- To setup the initiator system to boot from a remote iSCSI disk using Linux, follow the steps in
Linux Setup.
- After following the above steps if you are having problems, refer to
Troubleshooting.
